Kik in der Kok 2011

Kübersensuaalsuse Festival: filmid, videokunst, vestlused, performance'sid ja muusika

4-5. November, Kino Helios

Sauna 2-12, Tallinn, Eesti

Festivalist

Kik in der Kok festival on Tallinn Kultuuripealinna 2011 avalik üritus.

Kutsume teid osalema Kik in der Kokil, kahepäevasel interdistsiplinaarsel festivalil, mis uurib viise, kuidas meie igapäevane võrgu- ja mobiiliseadmete kasutamine suunab meie seksuaalset identiteeti ja skogeda antropoloogilist rännakut YouTube’i-intiimsuste, võrgukommuunifetišite ja tarbeerootika maailmadesse. Erinevate lühi- ja täispikkade filmide, videokunsti, anonüümsete veebivideote, autsaiderkunsti, performance’ite, loengute ja raamatupoena lahtirulluv festival juhatab teid läbi tänaste ürginstinktide rägastiku.

YouTube antropoloogia I ja II (EST)

Autor: Katja Novitskova

YouTube and other online video sharing websites encourage personal broadcasting and anonymous publicity. YouTube promotes the expression of sexual identities and fantasies in almost unrestricted ways. Due to platform’s censorship policy in regards to openly sexual content (genital nudity, sexual intercourse, etc), thousands of less explicit and more nuanced sexual videos are left untouched. In other words, YouTube is the heaven for fetishists and fans of homemade erotica. Kik in der Kok team is presenting hour-long compilations of several hundreds of these videos edited into documentaries and visual journeys through our contemporary sexual drive.

Because we are Visual (BE)

~ 60min, 2010

In ‘Because We Are Visual’ Olivia Rochette and Gerard-Jan Claes immerse themselves into the world of public video journals. The Internet and its online communities intend to bring people closer together and to connect them. Yet, surprisingly, it seems that the virtual world confronts these so-called vloggers more than ever with their own loneliness. This documentary allows the viewer to discover this contemporary phenomenon and focuses on the experience of the body within this virtual space. By means of visual material gathered from online sources, the cineastes create a unique poetic realm in which thoughts and worries merge together.

# videokunst

Ryan Trecartin (USA)

Ryan Trecartin is a 30 year old American artist and filmmaker. His visually overloaded videos explore the psyche of contemporary youth, affected by gigabyte diet of daily information, social pressures of identity capitalism and confusing freedom of open gender roles and sexuality. Trecartin mashes up the extravagant aesthetics of New York gay scene with a maniac mentality of online dating into stories that may be not so easy to follow, but are definitely exciting to watch. Prepare yourself for a visual overload of unseen proportions and dimensions.

“If there were a Spirit of the World Wide Web, Trecartin would be its medium on earth. Of course his art is grating; the Web, taken as a whole, is a grating and ungracious place, and at its worst it steals grace from the rest of the world. Trecartin captures this.” Blake Gopnik, 2011

Luke Gilford (USA)

Luke Gilford is an artist, writer, director, and photographer. This LA based young artist, writer, director, and photographer is contributing to Kik in der Kok with a very short video of a very famous porn star Sasha Grey. Having been not able to meet for a video shoot they did one over Skype.

Wendy Vainity (AUS)

49 year old “cat lover/ try hard gardener/ port Adelaide power supporter/ freeware addict” Wendy Vainity makes short and very surreal 3D animations that often explore the (virtual) fluidity of gender and sexuality, and often include everyday objects and situations. She has an extended archive on YouTube and some of her most explicit videos were recently deleted from the site due to censorship. Kik in der Kok is presenting a collection of Wendy Vainity’s work that transcend our ideas about erotic animation – from the position of this overly creative middle aged woman, who does not refer to herself as a visual artist.

Billy Rennekamp aka Ralph’s (USA)

Billy Rennekamp is a young artist living in NYC whose primary interest lies in games. His secondary interest is the reason he is taking part in Kik in der Kok 2011. In 2009 Billy curated a weird internet porn magazine called Ralph’s vol. 01, and then organized an exhibition in New York called ‘Immediate Release’. For our festival Billy is making a twenty minute recording from his computer desktop where he will be shuffling around short clips of exotic sexual videos he found online. Possibly Ralph’s vol. 02 will also be available in AsteriX bookstore.

Chris Cumingham (USA/DE)

Chris is a video artist who started a porn website to make money. He declared a new genre Nu Fetish and made some noise in the hipster media by producing short videos that are both highly erotic and simple. Most of them feature a young woman re-enacting her most bizarre sexual fantasies – they almost never include genitals, spenetration and other trivial things we normally associate with sex, and often feature less mundane acts and rituals, like putting a plastic balloon on your head or trying to drink milk like a cat. And yet the way Chris represents girls in his work invites a very much pornographic gaze, and hopefully brings him some cash.

Tegevuskunst

Helga Wretman (SWE/DE)

http://www.helgawretman.com/

Helga is a petite professional stunt woman, a dancer and a performance artist. She jumps on running trains from running horses, choreographs the musical and stars in a music video of Peaches and does tons of her own work as a performance artist, often in collaboration with others. Doing simple yet effective performances with iPhones, safety helmets and fire, she explores the metaphor of network society and its traps. Helga is the main girl in performances of AIDS-3D art collective from Berlin – appearing as a utopian female figure and goddess of the nudity-obsessed cybernetic age. This 3D modeled looking girl will bridge the gap between reality and virtual fantasy at Kik in der Kok.

The Coming Community, Sam Hancocks (AUS)

Sam Hancocks from www.visual-aids.org is a young artist and creative blogger who successfully translates his research and fascination with online fetishism into sculptures, videos and performances. The Coming Community is a performance incorporating a customized puffer jacket that was commissioned by a member of a fetish community DownClub.net to be oversized and overfilled to his specifications. Sam borrowed the enormous jacket and invited a performance artist to create a dance piece based on the typical videos from the fetish site. The result is surreal and mesmerizing. For Kik in der Kok Coming Community will be performed by an Estonian artist.

Loengud ja vestlused

Thijs Witty (NL)

Thijs Witty is a Master student in Cultural Analysis at the University of Amsterdam. This presentation will look into the sexual politics of make-up tutorials by focusing on conflicting principles of femininity/masculinity, consumerism/artistry, and capitalism/drive. What is “manscara” and “man-fringes”? What can Youtube make-up tutorials tell us about sexuality as we think we know it?
