Earthware (PDB approximations...) is a series of works that uses LLMs to generate novel biological shapes based on existing image models from Protein Data Bank (of proteins, viruses, enzymes, etc). For the series I combine the generated models of possible novel protein forms with a collection of various possible Venn diagrams. As I’m not a scientist, nor is this project done in collaboration with scientists (at least not yet, I’d love to), the resulting works are more a homage to one of my references and inspirations, the art works of Hilma af Klint. While she attempted to make diagrams of abstract spiritual domains, my goal is to kind of diagram the domain of novel bio-technological possibilities. The act of doing it as an artist is perhaps also a way to poke at the limitations of this process. I find there to be an artistic value to the process of morphogenesis using these new tools, concepts and materials. Earthware (PDB approximations...) series is part of the overall Earthware series.
